"Langue in Use" is a new course for learners of English at pre-intermediate level. It is intended for learners who have already studied some English, either recently or some time ago, and who now need to develop their overall competence before moving on to intermediate level. The course has a dual syllabus, in which units dealing with vocabulary alternate with units focusing on grammar. This provides systematic exposure to the most important features of English at this level, as well as natural recycling of language in a variety of contexts throughout the course. The learner's material consists of a Classroom Book and a Self-study Workbook, each with accompanying cassettes. "Language in Use" offers pre-intermediate learners: a carefully structured dual syllabus; a strong foundation of grammar and vocabulary; extensive self-study opportunities; development of fluency and communicative ability; structured opportunities for acquisition as well as formal learning; skills development in speaking, writing, reading and listening; systematic pronunciation practice; a wide range of motivating tasks and activities; clarity of presentation and design; flexibility for learners from a broad range of language learning backgrounds; material which has been extensively piloted before publication.
The Self-study Workbook consolidates and extends work done in the classroom, providing a varied programme of practice and learning activities related to the class work. This includes grammar and vocabulary exercises; a separate writing skills; reading tasks; and self-acces listening, pronunciation and dictation exercises (using the Self-study Cassettes). The Answer Key enables learners to check and correct their own work.
