The Moth

„The Moth” to jak dotąd najbardziej ambitne dzieło Devina Townsenda — projekt, który istnieje w jego świadomości jako dzieło życia: immersyjne, orkiestrowe, chóralne i teatralne przedsięwzięcie powstające ponad dekadę. To, co zaczęło się jako odległa wizja, stało się rzeczywistością, gdy Townsend został zaproszony do współpracy z Orkiestrą i Chórem Północnej Holandii.

W przeciwieństwie do jego wcześniejszych, pełnych zmian gatunkowych światów, The Moth zostało od podstaw pomyślane jako w pełni zorkiestrowana narracja. Townsend spędził lata, ponownie zgłębiając podstawy muzyki, by samodzielnie napisać partyturę: harmonię, kontrapunkt i orkiestrację zbudował od nowa, korzystając z profesjonalnej pomocy Josepha Stevensona. Efektem jest skrupulatnie skomponowane, emocjonalne dzieło, w którym każdy instrument i głos ma przestrzeń, by wybrzmieć.

Album, nagrywany w ponad dziesięciu krajach, gromadzi niezwykłą globalną obsadę: wspomnianą Orkiestrę i Chór Północnej Holandii, wieloletnich współpracowników — Darby’ego Todda, Mike’a Keneally’ego, Jamesa Leacha — oraz gości, w tym Steve’a Vaia, Anneke Van Giersbergen i Lynn Wu (Ou). Setki muzyków, inżynierów, mikserów i artystów zasiliło ogromny ekosystem kreatywny tego projektu.

W swojej istocie The Moth opowiada o transformacji. Poprzez wzniosłe aranżacje i intymne momenty dzieło eksploruje samoakceptację, poddanie się losowi oraz odwagę, by stawić czoła dyskomfortowi bez odwracania wzroku.
