Masami Sato, a top staff writer on the police beat, is a tenacious woman going head to head with men in a male-dominated arena. Her latest story follows a serial killer collecting heads in the nearby city of Kofu.
When Akio maneuvers his way onto the assignment, he's drawn by the opportunity of real recognition and the chance to work with Masami. It never occurs to him he'd find himself in the path of a monster.
The investigation creeps into the dark and uncertain world of the paranormal, and ghost stories of evil samurai become the order of the day. Akio and Masami begin to wonder if the witnesses are all insane, or if the killer is even human. Trapped in the dungeons of an ancient castle ruin, they soon realize that the price for getting the story may be their own heads.
